York Design Awards

The York Guild of Building are sponsors of the York Design Awards and members attended this years presentation at the Ron Cook building at York University on Monday 24th June 2019.

The York Design Awards, now in its 13th year, is intended to encourage and promote excellence in design and conservation, ‘striving for the highest standards which will delight present and future generations’.

The awards are open to all developments within the City of York Council boundary.

This year introduced a new award – The Young Peoples award and representatives from the Robert Wilkinson School in Strensall attended to present the award to their favourite, “Jakes Treehouse”.

Jakes Treehouse is a playscheme designed space which is elevated off the ground with a raised walkway, tree platform, clatter bridge and a sensory gazebo. The project was inspired by Jake, who had Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy, who died in December 2016 at the age of 4. His family and community raised over £30,000 to complete the scheme.
