Alan Mitchell: 2017-2018
On 25th April 2017, Alan Mitchell was installed as Master of the York Guild of Building.
With over thirty years practical engineering experience, Alan commenced his career with a civil engineering contractor, undertaking pipeline and tunnelling construction within the UK. He then progressed onto steel work design; working for some of the country’s largest fabricators and spent five years with a structural engineering software company, in the design and analysis section.
He established maltech in 2000, to provide consulting civil and structural engineering services for both domestic and commercial clients; these now include Diocesan boards, Charitable Trusts and Estates. The consultancy handles a variety of projects: from surveys and simple beam designs to large scale buildings and total building solutions, where maltech has been responsible for the whole design, including project management.
Alan’s skills avoid ‘over-engineered’ proposals, resulting in attractive and economical schemes for the client. As a result, maltech has worked on specialist steel detailing for the iconic Sage Centre, Heathrow T5 as well as buildings in Iceland, Ukraine and the Philippines.
