Last Thursday, the annual York Craftsmanship awards took place at Bedern Hall. We saw a great turn out, with both familiar and new faces turning up to the event. This and the number of great entries for this years awards was an encouraging step towards the future of craftsmanship in York, and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in the event, on and leading up to the night. One of the most notable winners of the night was Dick Reid, who took home the Master's Award for his work on restoring the column heads in York Art Gallery. More photos from the night will be uploaded shortly, but for now there is a link below for the presentation from the night, and a few photos showcasing some of the entries.

Craftsmanship has always been something that I aspire to engage in. I have been fascinated by these artworks ever since I went to the museum with my classmates. I saw how intricate the details that craftsman put into their own fields. Personally, the craft that I would specifically want to learn is making leathered handbags. Every process should be well executed because just one wrong move, the craftsman can damage the material and it could lead to the price of the handbag to be reduced. I feel like every craft out there is done with a lot of effort and careful execution to be able to produce a fine piece of art.
