YORK MEDICAL SOCIETY ROOMS VISIT - 4th July 2018 Located down a long alleyway off Stonegate, these properties and gardens fully deserve their accolade as being one of York's finest 'Hidden Gems'. One of their many treasures is York's first telephone owned by Tempest Anderson whose family owned the properties throughout the 1800s. Also visible under the pigeon is probably the City's oldest rain hopper ! Many thanks to Past President David Pring for a fascinating and comprehensive tour of the buildings, rooms and gardens with a refreshing glass of fizz in the sunshine to start the evening off. There was a capacity turnout of 12 for the visit to the stoneyard at York Minster on 6th March 2018. We were treated to an introduction from Steve Bielby, Guild of Building member but also a member of the Minster staff, to explain the basic principles and materials and that our visit would ‘follow the stone’ from the cut limestone blocks that arrive delivered to the stoneyard from Samuel Smith’s quarry at Tadcaster through to their installation as formed stones into the Minster.
